Elmendorf, Texas · Est. off the highway to San Antonio
Big Flavor, Small Prices, Right Off the Road.
Scratch-made tacos, breakfast plates and menudo, served hot from a family kitchen with a covered patio and a 4.5-star reputation.
Our Story
A Roadside Kitchen Worth the Detour
Tacos El Agavero sits just off the highway between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, easy to spot by the big agave sign on the roofline and the Valero station down the road. It's a to-go window with a covered patio and picnic tables, not a sit-down dining room — and that's exactly the point. Everything comes off the grill and out of the kitchen fresh, fast, and priced like a place that would rather feed the neighborhood than impress a food critic.
Regulars come for the chorizo and egg plates at 6am, the weekend menudo, and fajitas that reviewers swear taste like a $25 River Walk plate for less than $10. Whether you're grabbing breakfast tacos before work or stopping mid-drive for a full lunch plate with rice, beans and avocado, the kitchen keeps it simple: real ingredients, generous portions, and a menu built around what people actually order twice.
There's no dining room and no frills — just shaded picnic tables, ceiling fans, and a stone counter where the whole menu is painted right on the wall. Order at the window, grab a horchata or agua fresca, and settle in for a plate that locals and highway travelers keep coming back for.

What Folks Are Saying
4.5 Stars from 100+ Google Reviews
“This restaurant deserves 5+ stars. Have the pozole — I've never enjoyed a pozole as much as I did this one. So much meat, great price. Definitely recommended!!!”
“Amazing food at amazing prices. Fajitas were amazing. What costs you less than $10 here would go easily above $25 at the River Walk.”
“Friendly, clean, delicious. Outdoor patio, covered seating. Always get their menudo on the weekends. Great aguas frescas!”
“Needed a lunch spot heading down to Corpus Christi. This place did not disappoint — plenty of food with very reasonable prices. Would definitely come back again.”
“Opens at 6am — the chorizo and egg is very good, and so is the potato and egg. You can see it on the right going toward San Antonio.”
